We take our mission for mental health very seriously, because we know firsthand how overwhelming college can feel! The PAWS team met in class at WSU and formed a study group, which quickly turned into a weekly vent session about how burned out we all felt.
WSU offers a day of emotional support dogs during finals week both semesters, but the lines were long, the rooms were crowded, and time was limited. The process was almost more stress than it was worth, and the dogs only came around twice a year. We all noticed how much better "petting the stress away" made us feel, but we wished there was a year-round, affordable option for those weeks when you wonder if your brain might actually explode. This study group's weekly vent sessions eventually grew into a dream: a calm, welcoming environment where you could pay a low rate for some quality time with a certified emotional support dog, in a group or by yourself. This year, we finally realized that dream and founded PAWS, a non-profit organization dedicated to the students on the Palouse who need a little pick-me-up. If your struggle is a little too real right now, why not unwind with a trained professional? Check out our staff below, and book your hour today.

College is stressful, but there are ways to maintain it. Visit PAWS today. PAWS KICK-OFF EVENT Thursday, April 4, 2019 | 12-9 p.m. Pups & Cups Cafe will host a kick-off event for the new non-profit PAWS (Pups Assisting With Stress) at noon on April 4, 2019. The PAWS team hopes to provide an example of the services that will begin early April providing emotional support animals to the public. PAWS will bring its entire fleet of therapy dogs for a meet and greet with university students. “Science demonstrates that the introduction of pets into high-stress environments helps to boost morale and encourage a culture of mental wellness and serenity,” said Glenn Johnson, Mayor at City of Pullman. The event features a signature cocktail and 'mocktail' created by the cafe's bartender, and guests will be able to take a picture with their favorite pup at a photo booth. All proceeds go toward the PAWS team's mission to bring therapy dogs to college students at the lowest possible cost. PULLMAN, WASH — PAWS, Pups Assisting With Stress, will host a kick-off event for the new non-profit at noon on April 4, 2019 at Pups and Cups in downtown Pullman. The intention of this event is to provide an example of the services that will begin early March at PAWS by providing emotional support animals to the public. PAWS will bring its entire fleet of therapy dogs for a meet and greet with WSU students. The event will feature a signature cocktail and signature 'mocktail' created by the bartender, along with a photo booth where guests will take a picture with their favorite pup. All proceeds go toward the company's mission to bring therapy dogs to college students at a low cost. "The simple act of petting a dog has been proven to increase serotonin levels in humans," said Megan Guido, Chief Marketing & Community Relations Officer, Pullman Regional Hospital. "PAWS' idea to make such a program available year-round made perfect sense. Why not give kids some positive avenues to stress relief?" “Science demonstrates that the introduction of pets into high-stress environments helps to boost morale and encourage a culture of mental wellness and serenity,” said Glenn Johnson, Mayor at City of Pullman. "We are excited to showcase our non-profit to the wonderful community of Pullman," said Emma Troutman, VP Communications of PAWS. To learn more about PAWS, visit https://wsupaws.weebly.com. |
